Emerging Artist Matching Grant

Chaffee Arts is proud to announce that Evelyn Gottschall Baker has funded an Emerging Artist Matching Grant.  This matching grant will be used to pay for the membership fee to join Chaffee Arts, as well as the entrance fee to the Chaffee Arts Open Awards (OAS) show.  In addition, any excess funds will be used to create an Emerging Artist award category for the Open Awards Show.

The grant requirements are as follows:

  1. Open to amateur artists only, in all art categories

  2. The artist has never sold artwork via a business or a co-op, etc.

  3. The artist has never won a prize in any non-academic art show

Evelyn recently received an Honorable Mention in Emerge 2018, the tenth installment of the Bullseye Glass Company’s biennial, juried competition for rising talent in kiln-glass. She teaches her kiln-formed glass technique in workshops in the US, Canada, and Scotland.  Locally, she received the “Judge’s Award” in the 2018 OAS, and decided it was time to step out of the local competition arena, and instead support this valuable program by supporting local, emerging artists.

In funding this award Baker stated, “I want to encourage new artists to become active in the local art community, and to have the ability to show their art, especially if they have never done so in the past.  By making this a matching grant program, I am hopeful that others in the art community will donate too!”

The Chaffee Arts Open Awards Show will take place from May 3rd – May 15th, 2019 at the Heritage Museum in Buena Vista.  Entrance to the Heritage Museum will be free to the public during the duration of the art show.
