The original intent for this painting was subdued colors & lighter values.   But one of my favorite art teachers always said, "listen to your painting, let it take you where IT wants to go" - put away your reference photo and original intent, and go in whatever direction the process leads you as you continue to lay down paint.   Each layer took me to more vibrant, often pure, complimentary colors that create visual excitement and interest, while also leading the viewer deeper into the painting.
