Carolyn Nelson is an obsessive stitcher, hoarder of thread and chaser of light. She has had several lives, with strings attached to all of them—art teacher, university instructor, doll-maker, graphic designer — but grandmother, mother and artist are the three she loves best.

Carolyn’s work is based on repetitive images that represent many aspects of fields--fields of objects, landscape fields, fields of marks. She creates a textile collage of layered, transparent hand dyed silks and overlays it with dense hand stitching with hand dyed silk thread.
